That article from that one magazine.

I am sure that my fellow healthy living friends have already read the icky article (and equally absurd “apology”) from a magazine blog that is not worth mentioning. My friend, who happens to be an incredible person and all around great writer, has what I feel to be, the best response I have seen. Please visit her article, Should Assholes Get a Column, to read her thoughts on the matter. I promise you will be glad that you did.

I have always considered myself blessed when it comes to the friends I have. Seriously, they are some great girls! And I count my online friends in that group as well. Of course, there is nothing like a little friend time face to face to help make life sweet.

Yesterday afternoon my friend and I met to enjoy a sweet treat. Little did we know that we would be eating ice cream together while the first snow storm of the season swirled around outside! It was a fun way to celebrate the snowy season, but of course, even better was catching up with a friend that I hadn’t seen in person in almost a year. So many of my dear friends have moved to different states, so it is a rare treat indeed to spend time together in person.

I count friends as a big bonus in creating a happy life! What about you? Do you have a good group of friend to hang out with from time to time?

Healthy Holidays

I have to be a little honest here and spill a “secret”. My husband is trying to lose weight, and of course, as the “chef” of the house, it’s really all up to me to cook in a way that will be helpful. This in turn actually bums me out a bit, because some of the most fun things to do around the holidays involve cooking things that aren’t exactly “healthy”!

Halloween is especially tricky this year, and as such, I haven’t even decorated fully. My traditional cookies will still be made, but there are many other fun and spooky things that I just won’t be able to try.

I never realized that baking was such a part of how I have fun. So, now I am in search of fun and low calorie things to make for the holidays. I have found one oatmeal cookie recipe that sounds perfect for fall, but I am certainly open for suggestions.

Catbus Cake!

First of all, I didn’t make this. I wish I had though, because it’s awesome!

CATBUS! cake!

If you have not watched My Neighbor Totoro, you really should. It’s a fun little anime from Studio Ghibli. It’s a very quirky story, as you can imagine a story with a Catbus must be!! But it is also a very sweet story, and one that we enjoy. I actually have a little Catbus key chain that I hang on my purse. It gets two reactions, either people know exactly what it is and get very excited when they see it, or people ask what it is and act like I am from outer space when I tell them it’s a Catbus.

At any rate, I love fun cakes, and this one is just so well done! It’s nice to see an amazing cake that was made with frosting and not just fondant. Or at least I think that the “fur” is all just frosting, don’t you?

Survey via Spabettie

When I saw this fun survey over on Spabettie, I knew that I had to play along. After all, who doesn’t love a little fun on a rainy, gloomy, Saturday?

People who are mean and nasty to animals, children, or other people.

How do you flush the toilet in public?
I usually use my foot to flush.

Do you wear your seatbelt in the car?
Always! And I hope that you do too.

Oh yes! My husband. And Captain Jack Sparrow.

Cheese, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms.

Very, very, rarely.

Did just mentioning that song make it get stuck in your head?
No, thank goodness.

Well, my hubby says that I have super freezing powers and that I could kill people with my cold fingers.

Peppermint or spearmint?

Where are your car keys?
In a bowl in the kitchen. A bowl that I made.

Do you talk to yourself?
Of course, who doesn’t? I just try not to do it out loud.

9 Days to Halloween!

It’s getting closer! And I really hope that I will be able to fit into my costume. My husband and I are dressing as Princess Peach and Mario if all goes well. Yes, we are totally cheesy like that, but hey, we love that game!

Martha Stewart completely rocks my Halloween world. She has always had some of the greatest ideas for the holiday, and I just love how much she loves Halloween. I recently got an email with pumpkin carving ideas in it, and this image is just one of the examples.

We didn’t get a huge pumpkin crop this year like we did last year. In fact, this year we got two adorable little pumpkins, and one massive pumpkin. Our massive pumpkin is no world record setter, but I am worried about how heavy it is going to be! Can’t wait to put it on the scale and find out.

Do you carve pumpkins in your house? What do you do with all the “guts”? Do you roast pumpkin seeds?

If you are dressing up this year, what do you plan to dress up as?

Outside in.

Have you noticed how much your outer world can affect your inner? For example, when my house is a mess, especially when the kitchen is a mess, it makes it a lot harder to want to cook. On the flip side, when things are clean and organized, cooking healthy, tasty, meals is a breeze. Everything runs more smoothly when everything has a place and is nice and neat.

When I get up in the morning and put on work out clothes, guess what happens? I end up working out! And when I am feeling a bit blah and not so great, I find if I put on a cute outfit and put a little effort into looking better I actually end up feeling better too!

Sometimes, it really can help to work from the outside in.
